Title: Football Tackle


Lab goal/question: How much force does a tackle bring and examine it.

Materials:
Video of Football tackle.

Procedure:
  1. Find the data for Ray Lewis (football player)
  2. Post the video of him takleing a dummy.
  3. Analyze the video.
  4. Calculate his force, impulse, momentum.
  5. Analyze the carts data (Same as #4)
  6. Compare data.
  7. compare it to real life.

Total speed: 26mph

From the video we watched, we saw that Ray Lewis brought 2200Lb of force on the dummy in 0.5 seconds.
Therefore, using this data, we are going to find the force, impulse, momentum, and power.
FORCE: 0.224808943 * 997.903214=9786.087582153048. it was about 9786.088 Newton force.
IMPULSE: 113.3980925*11.623=1318.0389
MOMENTUM: 113.3980925*11.623=1318.0389

Ray Lewis brought force of 9786.088N while our cart brought 23.38N force.
Ray Lewis brought about 419 times stronger force than the cart's force.

Reflection/conclusion:

From our data, we had a video for Ray Lewis tackling a dummy. According to the video they told us the force Ray brought to the dummy which was 2200Lb. Ray tackled with 2200Lb of force with velocity of 26mph. Using this information, we calculated the impulse, momentum, and force. After the calculation, we did a similar experiment using carts for collision. We calculated that the force was 23.38N force. We noticed that we could not calculate the power for both the experiment since we did not have the information about the displacement. Other than that, we had a successful experiment. What we concluded from this experiment is that football tackle is very strong and it brings great force to the player. This makes sense since when we watch football game, we see players struggling to get up after the tackle.
